Barnes & Fersten is proud to support the next generation of leaders, policymakers, and legal advocates through the Tennessee Future Leaders Scholarship. As a firm dedicated to protecting justice and advocating for individuals’ rights, we believe that education is the foundation of a stronger Tennessee.

This annual $1,500 scholarship is designed to assist students pursuing careers in law, political science, criminal justice, public administration, and related fields. Our goal is to empower students who are passionate about shaping the future of Tennessee through policy, governance, and legal advocacy.

🎓 Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the Tennessee Future Leaders Scholarship, applicants must:
✅ Be a high school senior or undergraduate student enrolled in an accredited Tennessee college or university.
✅ Be pursuing a degree in law, political science, criminal justice, public administration, or a related field.
✅ Submit a 500-1,000 word essay addressing the prompt below.
✅ Attach your current transcript, ACT/SAT scores, and any supporting documents.  

Scholarship Essay Prompt

📜 “What inspired you to pursue a career in law, government, or public policy? How do you envision your future work making a positive impact on the state of Tennessee?”

Your essay should explore the personal experiences, events, or individuals that have influenced your decision to study political science, law, criminal justice, public administration, or a related field. We encourage you to reflect on the following questions:

    • What sparked your interest in this field? Was there a particular event, legal case, historical moment, or personal experience that motivated you?
    • What role do you believe law, governance, or public policy plays in shaping Tennessee’s communities?
    • How do you hope to contribute to Tennessee’s legal or political landscape in the future?
    • What challenges do you see in Tennessee’s justice or legislative system, and how would you address them?

Submissions should be between 500-1,000 words and written in clear, compelling, and original prose. We encourage applicants to be authentic and thoughtful, using real-life experiences and examples to support their ideas.
