Nestled amidst the awe-inspiring beauty of Tennessee’s landscapes, Loudon County, fondly known as the “Lakeway to the Smokies”, is a captivating blend of tranquility, history, and vibrant communities. Our firm’s years of experience practicing in Loudon County afford us an intimate understanding of the local legal nuances. Until 2019, jury trials in Loudon County were held in the historic courthouse in Loudon. That courthouse burned, causing the court to relocate to a nearby government building that is not equipped to hold jury trials. A new law had to be passed in the State legislature allowing trials to be held outside the county seat. As of this writing, the Circuit Court still meets in Loudon, while holding trials in Lenoir City where the General Sessions Court usually meets.
Lenoir City has it’s own municipal court that meets at the Lenoir City Police Department building and is presided over by a separate Municipal Court judge who hears traffic, municipal ordinance, and even DUI cases for Lenoir City.
In 2022, Loudon County Courts closed 1,694 cases according to a 10 News report on the issues the burning of the court house has caused in the County. That was an increase from 2019, when the county closed 1,555 cases.
